Community

Leaving the edges of the field.

We take care of homes across Nashville: gutters, dryer vents, junk removal and more. Part of how we run this company is leaving room at the edges for neighbors who need a hand, and always with our crew paid fairly for the work.

The idea

Why we call it gleaning.

In the old law, farmers didn’t harvest the corners of their fields or go back for what fell to the ground. They left it so people in need could come and gather it for themselves. Right next to that law is another one: pay the people who work for you fairly and on time. We try to run our company on both.

“When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field.”

Leviticus 19:9

What we do

Six ways we leave room.

We’re signing up our first partner churches and agencies now. Once they’re on board, every program runs through partners who know the families they refer.

  • Community Rate

A reduced price on our services for seniors and families referred by one of our partner churches or agencies. You still pay something, and you get the same crew and the same care as any customer.

  • Corner of the Field

Every quarter we set aside one job at no charge for a widow, a senior, a single parent, or someone with a disability, referred by a partner: a gutter cleaning so no one climbs a ladder, a dryer vent cleaning to cut fire risk, or a cleanout for someone facing a code violation.

  • Moving-in help

For people leaving a shelter, aging out of foster care, or moving into veterans’ housing, we carry in, assemble and set up donated furniture so the first night feels like home.

  • Food from your cleanout

Clearing out a home with us? We’re arranging for unopened, unexpired shelf-stable food to go to a local food bank instead of the landfill.

  • Second-chance jobs

We hire people with records, people in recovery, veterans and others rebuilding, at the same standard and the same pay as everyone else. If you’re dependable and you work hard, we want to talk.

  • Sponsor a service

Customers, businesses and churches can cover a service for a senior or family a partner has chosen. We do the work at cost. Call us to set one up.

Getting help

How to get help.

We work through the people who know your situation, so they can speak up for you. If you’re working with a church, caseworker, senior services agency or housing program, start there.

  1. Talk to your caseworker, pastor or agency.

Ask them to contact us about our community program.

  2. They send us a short referral.

It tells us what you need and when.

  3. We call within one business day

to talk through the job and set a date.

Not working with anyone yet? Dial 2-1-1 to find local help, or call (615) 660-0917 or email info@crestworkcare.com and we’ll help you figure out where to start.

Leaving an unsafe home?

Please don’t book through our regular form. Call the YWCA’s 24/7 helpline at 800-334-4628 or text 615-983-5170. An advocate can plan a safe move and contact us. If you’re in danger right now, call 911.

Questions

Questions, answered.

Who qualifies?

Our partner churches and agencies decide that, not us. They know the families they serve, and they refer people they’ve confirmed need help. We’re signing our first partners now; until then, call us and we’ll talk it through.

Is it really free?

Some of it. Each quarter we set aside a job at no charge. Most other families pay a reduced Community Rate, or a sponsor covers the cost. Either way, you get the same crew and the same care as any customer.

Do you pay your crew on these jobs?

Always, at their normal rate. Fair pay for the people doing the work is part of the same idea.

Will you post photos of my move?

No, not without your written permission, and never for a crisis move. Your information stays private.

Is sponsoring a move tax-deductible?

Not when you pay us directly: we’re a for-profit company, so it’s a purchase of services. If you’d like to give tax-deductibly, ask us about giving through a church or nonprofit instead.

I have a record. Can I apply?

Yes. We look at the person first. Tell us about yourself and the work you’re looking for, and we’ll take it from there.
